Coaching

Coaching uses day-to-day work as a learning opportunity and is a process in which someone helps a colleague to solve a problem or do a task better than would otherwise have been the case, by helping them to learn rather than teaching them.

Coaching offers the client the opportunity to reflect on what has been taken-for-granted, reconsider their view of life and, if desired, transform their world.

Our Approach

We believe that coaching is a process that enables learning and development and thus improved performance, using a variety of styles, skills, and techniques depending on the context in which the coaching is taking place. We recommend that effective coaching requires that the coach has a knowledge and understanding of the process, as well as the requisite skills, and we offer training courses for manager coaches.

Our Coaching Code of Practice.

  1. Coaching must begin from a shared understanding of its purpose and who or what is to benefit.
  2. Both coach and client are to agree a contract and ground rules including the duration of the coaching relationship.
  3. The Coach’s role is to respond to the client’s developmental needs and agenda; it is not to impose their own agenda
  4. A coach should not intrude into areas which the client wishes to keep off-limits, unless invited to do so. A coach should check this out with the client and, where appropriate, refer the client to a counselor.
  5. A coach must be honest with the client about realistic achievement of goals.
